Abstract
The foundation of the human rights is made through the modernity promoting the individualism inspired by ancient Greece but different from it.
The role of philosophy in delineating and imposing the concept of dignity is unquestionable, the testiniony being the preoccupations of numerous philosophers dating back to antiquity concerning the nature of human condition and the features of human personality.
The present trend is that of impressing on human rights the character of universality. This means that starting from the concept of humanity the norms concerning human rights are equally valid everywhere irrespective of any categories of space and time.
