Abstract
The plethora of praise received by Emil Cioran’s system of thought has only delayed his welcome and acceptance as a philosopher. Admired as a nihilist, skeptic, pessimist, and even disputed as a philosopher altogether due to his subversive and atypical themes, Cioran is today one of the most provocative philosophers. Cioran’s central idea, according to the author, is his negative ontological perspective: the defective existence.
