Abstract
The toponymy has preserved, up until nowadays, a series of place names that are based on lexical elements, specific for the ages in which the respective denominations were created. Among them, there are words as: falcă (measurement unit, equivalent to 1,432ha in Moldova and 1,114ha in Muntenia), funie (measurement unit, 12 stanjens), jurebie (part of land), mejdină (unploughed part of land), ocină (inherited land), ohabă (inherited land, exempted from taxes), stânjen (stajen), tablă (narrow strip of land)etc. In the present article, the radiography of the term, moșie (estate)is made. The lexeme is to be analysed both from the perspective of the role and the hypostases it is met in the old legal system (an analysis based on the archive documents), and, of course, from the toponymic perspective (the typology of the structures it appears in, along with their frequency).
