Abstract
The new millennium brought profound changes on the present map of the contemporary world, nowadays divided into nation-states, some of them having a relatively stable national and cultural identity, others being placed within the sphere of influence of the great established prowers of the world stage. Globalization has developed grandually, pervasively, eroding the “national wall” and farcing a new world configuration, through the tendencies of abolishing the physical state borders and of creating another type of frontiers, usually invisible and of a different nature. The modification of the traditional borders, as a result of globalization, has brought about essential changes in developing the international relations, in perceiving and conceiving the role of the national state in this context.
