Abstract
The present work is a document-study, which registers, similarly to a dictionary, the names and the biographical information of those who
participated to the Independence War, along with the two World Wars. The documents depict the battle field activity and the great number of the dead, the wounded and the disappeared, together with the immense loss of arms, ammunition and materials. Most of the soldiers came from Vâlcea County, but sometimes people from the other counties of Oltenia, Muntenia, Transylvania, Moldova, Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina would be involved as well. The soldiers that made themselves remarked thorough courage, bravery, death defiance and heroic behaviour were rewarded by advancement in rank, or medals and Romanian military orders, such as: „Avântul Ţării”, „Bărbăţie şi credinţă”, „Virtutea Militară”, „Coroana României”, „Steaua României”, „Mihai Viteazul” order and „Mihai Viteazul” with spades one.
