Abstract
The Church of St. Athanasius and Cyril is the last church built in the royal residence of Târgoviște, in the long transition from medieval to
modernity. Founded by local boyars, Badea and Iordache Văcărescu, the building is one of modest proportions that impresses with the interior painting of the church, considered among the most valuable testimonies of the time, the work of the talented painters Ioan and Andrei, mentioned in the inscription in August 1768. In fact, the main restoration of the church, from 1945, will be focused on the painting, the cleaning procedures taking care not to affect anything of its originality. The communist regime brought the urban remodeling of Târgoviște, and the small church managed to overcome the obstacles with the help of some representatives people of the local community.
The contribution of this study consists in bringing and collecting all the information regarding the important monument in Târgoviște, the details regarding the restorations, included in the files of the National State Archives or within the National Heritage Institute, not being used in the scientific world so far.
