Abstract
The goal of this paper is to analyse the challenges to the energy security of China and India in the 21st century and the countries’ response in form of energy diplomacy. I will argue that the energy diplomacy of China and India allowed oil companies from both countries to become important players in the market but only indirectly increased the energy security of their home countries. Contrary to the initial concerns, the energy diplomacy of China and India has not changed the structure of the market or challenged the principles of their foreign policy.
