Abstract
The industrialization of the Romanian economy under political stress after 1948 demanded varied and many specialists. It is normal to assess that among intellectuals, engineers were the most highly disered graduates of higher education and the tuition figures were suitable imposed. There were engineers trained in problems regarding for example oil and gas, mining, mechanics, construction or agriculture. There were different decisions taken during almost 50 years in order to have the right specialists in the right domains, at the right time. The variety of specializations in which engineers could be trained is the subject of this study, in which I reconstruct in an alphabetic list all the specializations that were in use at different times in the period 1948–1989. I supplement this list with presenting the ways in which the configuration of nomenclatures of specializations were shaped, including proposals of new specializations or other changes that never came into reality.
